# Identity

David Siegel - medium article

In the web3 space, we celebrate the establishment of the **31st human right**.. "The right to own personal data as property"..

This is important so we do not become exploited and manipulated by big tech companies such as facebook and google and instead remain in control of digital identities using [DLT](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributed_ledger) and [DID](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decentralized_identifier)s .

A secure place to store your personal data and control access to it.. akin to ideas descibed in the [personal data locker above](https://shortfall.blog/the-personal-data-locker-a-project-whose-time-has-come-af02fa2bd0f5)

Once we have a secure wallet for identity, we can correlate our personal devices and embed assets (NFTS) and attestations (certificates) that are part of somebody's persona or profile. "Proof of human being" becomes more practical.

The social capital or reputation that we earn in one community network can later be used to assist with access to another.
